   While Starfleet keeps the peace by means of its military might, the Federation relies upon its trained diplomats to maintain relations with foreign powers. While many diplomats are culled from various luminaries of a given planet, the Federation maintains a well-trained cadre of attaches, consuls and other foreign service officers to augment their ranks.
