Early Life
Brian Jackson was the first born son of four to geologist parents who worked with the terraforming division of the Federation Science branches.  Caught at an early age by their love of planetary sciences, Brian found he excelled at the study of planets, especially in regards to terraforming, despite his constant need to move and climb and run.  His parents, proud of his intelligence (and just as annoyed at his constant roaming, climbing, jumping, and seemingly endless energy) often arranged for Brian to go on digs, studies, and other long-range science missions that would keep him physically challenged as well as mentally.

Academy Life
Although he found the mental discipline of Starfleet Academy daunting at times, Brian Jackson excelled throughout his career, always placing somewhere in the top five to ten percent of his classes.  Though he followed the science paths, he also won himself a position on the Academy Parisses Squares Team (and his team even managed to win against an Andorian group, no small feat).  He focused on terraforming and colonization training, and spent his cadet cruise on a planetary survey vessel, the U.S.S. Nova, that was fueling and supplying various terraforming projects in Federation space.

Tours of Duty
Ensign Jackson spent his first four years on a Terraforming mission on one of the Federation Frontiers.  He loved it, found it as much a physical challenge as a mental one, and gained a great respect for the Federation ideals within its citizens and his fellow officers.  He also learned to think quickly and make do with whatever tools were at hand.  Thereafter, he reunited with the U.S.S. Nova and spent three years travelling through newfound worlds, surveying those in line for colonization or possible terraforming.  Near the end of this mission, the Nova was close by when a group of terrorists captured a group of terraformers and their industrial grade replicator, and demanded safe passage from the system.  Starfleet kept the terrorists talking, and a Rapid Response Team was sent in to rescue the hostages.  As the terrorists were keeping the hostages in the many, and dangerous, caverns underneath a semi-active volcano, Ensign Jackson was assigned to go with the team as a scientific specialist.  He performed above expectations, the hostages were rescued, and Starfleet has kept Jackson in mind should similar sitations arise again.  Since then, Ensign Jackson has been assigned to the U.S.S. Perseus, just now beginning its border patrol along the Federation colony worlds near the Cardassian DMZ.

Personality & Appearance
Brian Jackson is a very large and muscular man, about six feet tall, just turned thirty.  He lifts weights, plays Parisses squares, and constantly pushes himself with climbing mountains (and holodeck ones, when no others are available).  He has fairly plain looks, with dark brown eyes and hair, and usually a deep tan, but often has a friendly smile in place.

Jackson is a man who enjoys the physical world and his ability to affect it.  Terraforming technology and the fundamentals of colonization constantly grab his attention, and he's always got some new study going on in the planetary sciences lab.  Jackson sometimes overdoes his workouts and climbs when he's tense or frustrated, and the CMO often has to tell him to relax or focus more on low-impact exercise.  Jackson is always craving something new to do, but doesn't leave previous projects undone.

Author's Notes
Jackson is intended as a background NPC science officer with a bit of a different twist from the usual academic types.  He's also suitable for use with Rapid Response Team plotlines, and can be involved in any geological story as well.
