Background
Normal Upbringing
Leadership Training

Jake was born in White Salmon, Washington at the foot of Mount Adams in 2345. His father taught high school science and his mother was a hospitality worker at one of the nearby resorts. As a kid, Jake would listen to stories that his uncle, a Starfleet science officer, would tell him while on shore leave. Jake got into Starfleet Academy in 2362, enrolling as undecided until he chose Command in 2364 after witnessing the launch of the newly commissioned U.S.S. Enterprise. At the end of his third year, Jake and five other cadets were sent to Vulcan to observe tests on a prototype ablative armor and were thrust into a Romulan plot to steal the prototype and the plans for the device. Through quick action on their parts, the cadets were able to foil the plan after their instructor, Lieutenant Leslie Gooder, was killed. The Enterprise was called in to the area to aid in the follow-up investigation, since it was the only ship to have contact with the Romulans in over 50 years. Captain Jean- Luc Picard called for the commandant of Starfleet Academy, and the cadets were awarded commendations for their bravery and initiative. Captain Picard is keenly interested in the cadets and has informed the Commandant that he would like to have them posted to the Enterprise following their cadet cruise.

Jake has been assigned to the U.S.S. Endeavor for his cadet cruise, and will be serving as one of the shift flight officers during the year long tour. He knows that Captain Picard has shown interest in him and his fellow squadmates, but he does not know the extent of Picard's involvement in directing him towards the Enterprise. He also wonders when he will see the Romulan Tal Shiar agent, Sindal, who he and his fellow cadets foiled on Vulcan. The Romulan had sworn that he would see them again, and Jake has no doubts that the agent will be looking for revenge.

Role-playing notes
Jake is the quintessential explorer, and is enthusiastic about anything Starfleet. He loves to pilot everything from shuttles to starships, and constantly strives to become a better officer. He is inexperienced in the romance department, but is handsome enough to draw attention. He is a natural commander, though he is still somewhat uncomfortable in the role. He is somewhat in awe of space and is still trying to take in all the wonders that are out there, since all he knew before the Academy was Earth.

Please feel free to include Jake in your campaign either as a PC or as a low-ranking helmsman who could easily latch onto senior characters for advice and friendship.
