Description and Notes
Fleet data: The Andes-class shuttles are fixed configuration shuttles designed to supplement ships with extended mission profiles. The Andes-class shuttle is the first line production vessel to use information that was transmitted by the crew of the U.S.S. Voyager and based heavy on Borg- inspired weaponry and designs, along with several additional enhancements that have occurred within Starfleet.

The Andes have just been put into use and have been designed to act as mid- range scouting vessels. The first of these new shuttles has been assigned to the Hawkins-class Deep Explorers to assist in its mission of exploration.

As the Danube-class had taken their names from rivers, the majority of the Andes-class take their name from mountain ranges.

Noteworthy vessels / service records / encounters: U.S.S. Andes, prototype; U.S.S. Appalachians, assigned to U.S.S. Justice.

Editor's Notes
Far be it for me to dissuade readers from using a vessel named after the region I grew up in, but note that the U.S.S. Appalachia is a Steamrunner-class starship in The Price of Freedom: The United Federation of Planets Sourcebook, so a shuttle named Appalachians may cause some confusion.
