Description and Notes
Fleet data: Originally designed as a research cruiser and to complete more
indepth studies on interesting finds by various scoutships and the Explorer-class vessels
while being far more able to protect itself.
It was originally intended to replace the aging Miranda-class starships in this
capacity and to date has proven the versatility of its design.
Utilizing information and technologies developed during the construction of the Galaxy-class
and Nebula-Class projects, the Bradbury-class has proven that it is
capable of defending itself and operating on the frontiers to complete extensive studies.
It is expected to eventually replace the Oberth-class as well as that vessel
class is quite limited in its area of operation due to its inability to adequately defend
itself.
Due to the Borg invasion of 2367 and the Klingon Civil War the following year, production
of this class was temporarily halted as Starfleet produced several vessels of a more
militant design but as of 2370, production has once again begun and three more vessels of
this class should be launched later this year.
Noteworthy vessels / service records / encounters: U.S.S. Bradbury, prototype NX-72307
Author's Notes
This is a conversion from my FASA TNG game based on the vessel
mention in TNG and listed in the Encyclopedia. I've always liked the research cruisers.
They get more into the grit of exploration at least in my mind.
The minimum rank of its CO is Captain and the Department Head cost is rated at three
points.
Editor's Notes
With apologies to Bruce I had to tone down the "Research" cruiser -- it could go
toe-to-toe with a Nebula!
