Description and Notes
Fleet data:
The Federation- class is the heaviest Starfleet ship yet constructed, partially as an answer to the Klingon D-9 “Devil,” but on the drawing board long before that.  It is still fairly weak compared to the D-9, but carries advantage in shielding and warp speed (with an emergency speed of Warp 10).  It mounts three warp nacelles, two off of the primary hull, and one mounted dorsally from the back of the saucer.

Noteworthy vessels / service records / encounters: U.S.S. Federation, prototype, final test of improved warp system (2266); U.S.S. Star Empire, testbed for decoy system (failed) (2271); U.S.S. Concordat, distinction in action against Klingons in Gamma Hydra sector (2267).
