Description and Notes
Fleet data: One of the longest lasting designs in Starfleet history, the Miranda-class entered service in the 23rd century as a lighter companion to the Constitution-class. Though they have not been in production for decades, many of these vessels are still in service, some nearly a century old. The Miranda-class has several variants and has been upgraded numerous times in its service. They are easily modified to serve out specific missions -- for example, some have had their weapons pod converted to a sensor pod. Some have been converted to cargo vessels with skeleton crews while others still fulfill their role as exploration vessels. Though well armed for her size, the Miranda is no match for a modern warship. However, she can hold her own against lighter vessels and performs well in fleet actions.

Noteworthy vessels / service records / encounters: U.S.S. Brattain, explored Tyken's Rift; U.S.S. Lantree, destroyed by U.S.S. Enterprise for quarantine purposes (2365); U.S.S. Reliant, destroyed in Genesis Incident (2285); U.S.S. Saratoga, encountered alien probe while patrolling Neutral Zone (2286); U.S.S. Saratoga, lost in Battle of Wolf 359 (2367); U.S.S. Tian An Men, served in Romulan Blockade during Klingon Civil War (2367-2368).
