Description and Notes
Fleet data: Using technologies developed by the Defiant-class, the Sovereign-class stands poised to answer the threat of Dominion and Borg incursions. Utilizing a sleek new design, the Sovereign-class is the fastest ship in the fleet and enjoys the next-strongest type of shields in Starfleet (just behind the Prometheus-class) . Aside from the U.S.S. Sovereign and the U.S.S. Enterprise-E, 15 ships of this class are planned or are under construction.

Noteworthy vessels / service records / encounters: U.S.S. Sovereign, prototype; U.S.S. Enterprise-E, formerly U.S.S. Honorious, successfully defeated Borg attack of 2373.

Author's Notes
Many of the components shown here in the Sovereign-class are part of the Defiant, Intrepid, and Prometheus-class starships. Thus, she is the sum of some of the best that these three classes of starships have to offer. Because of her sleek lines and what would appear to be limited space I significantly reduced her torpedo compliment even though she displaces more than a Galaxy-class.

Her heavy torpedo compliment comes from sketches and diagrams of the Sovereign model where no less than four torpedo bays are displayed (labeled) by her creator. Rather than make them all purely quantum torpedoes I mixed them between both photon and quantum. There is little canon information known about this vessel so much of it is speculation.

I have removed her ablative armor based upon the new information from the Deep Space Nine Technical Manual. The problems associated with this armor make it unlikely that it would (or could) be employed on a vessel of this size. The Type XXV photon torpedo also comes from the same book.
