Upcoming Star Trek Product Information

Giving a call to the offices of Last Unicorn Games is always a treat -- they're such nice folks. At times I feel guilty gushing over about what a pleasure it is to work with them! In any case, here's some of the latest information that the Tal Shiar would love to get its hands on:

Planets of the UFP is through from the printer, along with Way of D'era: The Romulan Star Empire. I've been told that the foldout maps for both (yes, maps!) look fan-trekkin-tastic! Planets of the UFP begins shipping to distributors as I write this, on May 11th. That means you could find it on the shelves of your retailer perhaps around the 19th of May. You're not doing anything on the 19th of May, right?

Way of D'era, because it's a boxed set, will take a bit more time. The printed product will have to be assembled into boxed form, then shipped to distributors. Although I don't have a date handy, I would suspect around the first week of June. On a sidenote, Way of D'era was originally supposed to include three books, the first of which was going to be 96 pages. I say 'was' because it's now 128 pages of hard-core Romulan information, in addition to the other two books included in the set!

Next up is Planetary Adventures: Volume I, Federation Space. It is the companion book to Planets of the UFP and is at the printers now. Again, Last Unicorn Games continues their impressive graphic layout with another nice cover! Oh, speaking of covers, the Way of D'era cover was redone. Here's what the final version will look like: (click on either thumbnail for a larger image)

Holodeck Adventures, which I honestly don't know much about, is either in editing or layout at the moment.

A book near and dear to my heart, the Player's Guide (I heard it called the Player's Companion again), which Yours Truly wrote three chapters of (along with several other outstanding LUG authors), has been confirmed to now be a hardbound release. The book will be full color and similar to the Price of Freedom Sourcebook in size. I have to tell you, the Player's Guide rocks! It goes to editing shortly.

The Starfleet Academy Boxed Set is still being drawn together. If I were a guessing man, I'd say the Player's Guide and Starfleet Academy will both slip a month to July and August respectively. There's a lot going on in the month of June...

June? Oh yes, some of you might be looking forward to that new role playing game that we've mentioned a few times: Deep Space Nine! The book is written and edited, on its way to layout. I hope to provide a finished chapter to preview in the near future.

The Deep Space Nine Narrator's Toolkit and Pirates, Renegades, & Rogues will come out shortly thereafter. These books are all written and either in editing or on their way to layout.

Writing for the original series (TOS) Star Trek RPG has completed under the dedicated hard work of Mr. Ken Hite. That book continues to be on track for an August/GenCon release. I haven't had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Hite yet, but when I do I will pass along information as it becomes available.

General Star Trek RPG news is very positive. Printings of Starfleet Intelligence and Vulcans are in the process of, or have, sold out and new runs will start shortly. The second printing of the Core Game Book continues to do well along with the Price of Freedom Sourcebook. It's always nice to hear that people want more of a good thing.

The one complaint that I have seen frequently has been the quality of art in some of these early books. LUG has taken these comments to heart and starting with Planets of the UFP, have increased the art quality "considerably."

If you happen to be headed to any of the "big three" conventions in the upcoming months (Origins, DragonCon, and GenCon), LUG is looking for Narrators to run Star Trek games and demonstrate the Icon System. Contact Owen Seyler at LUG for more details (and I'll post more as I get the details).

That's all for now. Dismissed.
