Viva Las Vegas!
GAMA Trade Show 99

On March 23rd through the 25th pause was taken throughout the game-manufacturing industry to attend this year’s GAMA Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) hosts the show on an annual basis to allow manufacturers, distributors, and retailers to get together and preview the upcoming year’s products. Last Unicorn Games was in attendance, glowing like a proud parent at the success of their latest product, the Star Trek: The Next Generation Role Playing Game. Said Christian Moore, President of Last Unicorn Games, "GAMA was a great success. It was a very positive experience hearing from the distributors and retailers about how much they love the Star Trek line." A second printing of the Star Trek Core Game Book is already underway, much to the delight of retailers everywhere.

Last Unicorn Games also took the opportunity to announce two new exciting lines for their Star Trek products: the Engage! starship miniature rules and the new Crossover line. With the Deep Space Nine Role Playing Game and Star Trek (Original Series) Role Playing Game forthcoming, the Crossover line was created to answer the demand for products that could be interchanged with all of Last Unicorn Games’ Star Trek RPGs. Among them, a "Mirror, Mirror" sourcebook and the tentatively-titled "Spacedock" will outline adventures in the "mirror" universe and the creation of starships for use in the Star Trek RPGs respectively. A third sourcebook, covering time travel, titled "All Our Yesterdays," was described by Mr. Moore as "Very cool. People will love this product."

The Engage! line will offer an advanced tactical starship combat game with an extensive product line of miniatures developed by AEG. Expansion sets of whole fleets, blister packs of cast miniatures, as well as a limited miniature within the Engage! boxed sets, are all part of the initial Engage! line rollout. Although still in development, Mr. Moore indicated that as many as 18 starships could ship concurrently with the game during its planned September release.

The success of Star Trek products already in stores, such as the hardbound "The Price of Freedom: The United Federation of Planets Sourcebook," has led Last Unicorn Games to consider producing similar products. "Of course the Core Game Books will be hardbound and full color, but everyone was very appreciative of our layout and presentation. We plan to offer more sourcebooks of a similar quality," Moore said.

Retailers and consumers alike are highly anticipating future Star Trek products, such as the Deep Space Nine RPG Core Game Book and the Star Trek RPG Core Game Book, both nearing completion. Both games use the Last Unicorn Games’ easy-to-use Icon System and are slated for a June and September release respectively.

All the talk was not confined to Star Trek however, as Last Unicorn Games also revealed their Dune RPG due out this year. Using a variation of the Icon System, the Dune RPG release will be accompanied by the "Dune Narrator’s Toolkit;" a guide to running the Dune RPG along with a full-color Narrator’s screen. After hearing Mr. Moore describe the product it was easy to pick up on his excitement. "The Dune RPG is really going to be great. It came out fantastic and I know the fans will love it."

With a successful GAMA under their belts, the staff of Last Unicorn Games looks forward to an exciting year.
